COURSE DETAILS – Practical Project Management

Aim
To provide delegates who will be involved with projects with an awareness of the skills and techniques required to successfully manage & support various sized projects.

Objectives
By the end of this programme delegates will:
•Use a common language when discussing project matters.
•Understand the core tools used to support projects.
•Recognise the importance of working to a disciplined structure when managing projects.
•Understand why project management requires different skills than typical line management responsibilities.
•Be able to consider the steps required to avoid the common causes of project failure.
•Understand the importance of preparing a thorough plan for a project.
•Be aware of the stages of a Project through its Life cycle.
•Recognise their role in the risk and issue & change management process.
•Understand the benefits of product based planning and its links to achieving quality outputs.
•Understand the importance of both product review and project review and plan these at the most beneficial times.

Approach
This workshop will be highly practical with the emphasis firmly on identifying systems and approaches that will be suitable for delegates’ own working environment. Practical examples will be used as appropriate.
The morning will focus on understanding the overall principles of Project Management and the afternoon will provide opportunities for delegates to consider aspects of Project Management that affect their specific jobs.
Delegates from support roles will work through activities and those who may well Manage or Lead either all or certain aspects of Projects will work in different groups on alternative activities.
